Vampires Of Venice - Gaz

"It's another dimension" - Rory

That's where I'd like to start this week, with Rory, a bloke who's put up with a lot of shit from his crazy red-headed girl. Hell, as a kid Amy even made him dress as the Raggedy Doctor, and here he is now standing in the TARDIS and taking it all in his stride... is it just me, but does this pair of companions just seem a bit too comfortable for the usual?

Meanwhile, this episode was written by Toby Whithouse, responsible for Being Human, so it's not without surprise there are Vampires in 16th Century Venice, I was just more surprised that the actually turned out to be fish from space! Hey, I gotta agree with Jones, this was a funny episode, one of the funniest of this new series with lots of cracking dialogue being delivered by the mother and son, the lovers, The Dr and fish from space woman.

It was an episode filled with a lot of great nods to some brilliant source material, such as Dracula, the early Hammer Horrors, Being Human, Hitch-hikers Guide To The Galaxy and even Othello. In theory, it should not have worked, but it really did work.

I'll add a wee comment now, it seems that many people are looking to knock this series, but I think the reality is they are all judging the show on a level it does not deserve. Y'all need to remember despite our fond memories and avid re-watching of the older shows in the last four or five decades, it's still a show aimed a families and is shown on TV in the UK at around 7.30pm, and that's what it should be judged upon. I'm really enjoying the show for what it is and each week look forward to it, as I have since the 2005 relaunch episode, Rose.

Occasionally we'll both make some critical comments, but it's with affection for the show and the format, but I'll be watching each week, even if some weeks it's from behind the couch.

I liked:
Fish from space
Venice in 1580
A great story and dialogue from Toby Whithouse
The silence
Rory summing up The Doctor... fantastic

I disliked:
A switch... really? Better than a couple of crossed wires or replacing the unobtanium with soda bread silliness we have had before
The Doctor condemns yet another race of aliens to death

I need to be convinced:
The silence

Next week we have racing Combi's Rory gets a nasty mullet and Amy gets fat!
