Joss Whedon is “in final negotiations” to direct Marvel Studios’ superhero flick The Avengers, according to a report on Deadline New York.
“Whedon has been rumored for this job for awhile, and is high on the fanboy wish-list,” Deadline New York wrote. “He’s an interesting choice: Despite his writing/producing TV series resume, his lone feature directing effort, Serenity, was not a hit."
Whedon is the creator of fan favourite television shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly and most recently Dollhouse, he has also written his fair share of comic books, working on Marvel’s Astonishing X-Men and on titles related to his TV series. He's less known for his role as a "script doctor", having rescued Toy Story from a hopelessly complicated mess for Pixar.
Is Whedon the right man to tackle Marvel’s all-star superhero feature, which will rope in Iron Man, Captain America and Thor?
Before you answer the question, remember it is part of Whedon's style to deliver a story with sudden impact / shock scenes, such as a sudden and unexpected death of a lead or key character. This maybe something Marvel would not be happy with... then again in comic book world, everyone gets a second chance... or third, fourth... fifth!!
